 Library Day-Tuesdays

Our class checked out books from the school library last Tuesday. Here are a few things to note about library:

Library books are due every Tuesday.  Checking out books from our school library is a privilege. To check out books students are expected to:
1- Follow the library rules (be respectful, follow directions, use a library voice, etc.)
2- Return library books (no outstanding books)
3- Select a book during the allotted time

Students can choose to check out the same book again the following week if they wish.

We encourage you to visit with your child about taking good care of our library books. Students should have their books out as well as their folders on Tuesdays.

As usual, pick up on Tuesdays is at the front of the school.

 Updates:

We are excited to be working on Unit 1 in Language Arts. Below are the high frequency words, oral vocabulary words, and letters we will be mastering in the next 3 weeks. In addition, we are working on syllables, identifying the beginning and ending sounds of words, and writing our name.

In math, we have started our individual math lessons on iReady. We are working to master counting to 20 and reading and writing our numbers 0-10. In addition, we are identifying which number comes next when we hear any number 1-99. You can help us at home by saying a random number 1-99 and asking us which number comes next.

 Snacks!

Thank you to everyone who has donated food for our afternoon snacks. We are in need of additional healthy snacks such as, granola bars, fish crackers, fruit snacks, cheese sticks, pretzels, etc. Any donations can be dropped off at the office with a note for "Mrs. Hirano's Kindergarten".

A Look Inside Our Classroom:

We are focusing on learning sight words like I, can, see, the, and we, and we’re getting better at recognizing these words during our reading sessions together.

We've begun exploring sounds from our sound wall, including p, d, m, n, f, v, short o, long and short a, short i, and e. Each morning, we have fun practicing these sounds.

We’re also practicing reading and writing our names, as well as numbers 1, 2, and 3, and lowercase letters of the alphabet.

In the classroom, we’re learning how to use various supplies properly, such as iPads, math manipulatives, whiteboards, crayons, and scissors. We even have a neat trick to help us hold our pencils correctly.

In math, we’re exploring counting and discovering that there are many things around us to count. We’ve also started using the iReady math program on our iPads.

In Art, we made colorful leaves while learning how to use scissors and glue. Keep an eye out for these creative projects coming home soon.

In social studies, we’re discussing the importance of rules and establishing our own classroom rules.

We’ve completed our beginning-of-year assessments, smiled for picture day, and had our first fire drill. We’ve also started our “specials” classes: computer science on Mondays, keyboarding and kindness on Tuesdays, writing on Wednesdays, and library on Thursdays.

We love singing, dancing, reading, and sharing stories. We look forward to recess, lunch, snack time, and even more recess! We’re making new friends and trying out new skills. It’s going to be a fantastic year!
