Please keep an eye out for math packets and the Wonders book coming home in your child's take-home folder. While we won't complete everything in the packet or book at school, you are welcome to review the materials at home with your child. This extra practice can help reinforce what they're learning in class.

Library:

Our class checked out books from the school library last Tuesday. Here are a few things to note about library:

Library books are due every Tuesday.  Checking out books from our school library is a privilege. To check out books students are expected to:
1- Follow the library rules (be respectful, follow directions, use a library voice, etc.)
2- Return library books (no outstanding books)
3- Select a book during the allotted time

Students can choose to check out the same book again the following week if they wish.

We encourage you to visit with your child about taking good care of our library books. Students should have their books out as well as their folders on Tuesdays.

What we are learning:

We are now beginning Unit 2 in Language Arts. Below are the power words, oral vocabulary words, letters, and sounds we will be mastering during the next 3 weeks. We will continue working on syllables, rhyming, identifying the beginning and ending sounds of words, and writing our name (with correct upper-case/lower-case letter formations).

In math we are writing our numbers 0-10, counting to 20, and comparing greater than and less than within 10. We enjoy passing standards on our Kindergarten math game boards and counting our 100% stars from our iReady lessons.

 A Look Inside Our Classroom:

We are focusing on learning sight words like I, can, see, the, and we, and we’re getting better at recognizing these words during our reading sessions together.

We've begun exploring sounds from our sound wall, including p, d, m, n, f, v, short o, long and short a, short i, and e. Each morning, we have fun practicing these sounds.

We’re also practicing reading and writing our names, as well as numbers 1, 2, and 3, and lowercase letters of the alphabet.

In the classroom, we’re learning how to use various supplies properly, such as iPads, math manipulatives, whiteboards, crayons, and scissors. We even have a neat trick to help us hold our pencils correctly.

In math, we’re exploring counting and discovering that there are many things around us to count. We’ve also started using the iReady math program on our iPads.

In social studies, we’re discussing the importance of rules and establishing our own classroom rules.

We’ve completed our beginning-of-year assessments, smiled for picture day, and had our first fire drill. We’ve also started our “specials” classes: writing on Mondays, Library on Tuesdays, computer science on  Wednesdays, and keyboarding on Thursdays.

We love singing, dancing, reading, and sharing stories. We look forward to recess, lunch, snack time, and even more recess! We’re making new friends and trying out new skills. It’s going to be a fantastic year!

 First Day of Kindergarten!

We are excited for our FIRST DAY of school tomorrow!

What to bring: Please send your child with headphones and a water bottle. We encourage you to label these items.

Drop-off: Students are invited to play outside until the 8:22 whistle. They will then line up outside the portable. (Breakfast is available everyday, prior to the start of class in the lunchroom).

Pick-up: If you are participating in the carpool parking or daycare van pickup, we will bring your child to the pick up area in the back of the school. All other students will be brought to the gate between Q1 and Q2. You are welcome to park, use the crosswalk and come get your kindergartener. You are also welcome to have another designated student (ie siblings) come get your child and take them to a pickup spot of your choosing. Students will remain with us until they have been successful transferred to the care of a parent, caretaker, sibling, or other designated person.
